Istral

Istral
(Its-TRILL)
Variations: USTREL
In Bulgaria, when a child born on a Saturday dies before it can be baptized, it will rise from its grave nine days after its burial as a vampiric REVENANT known as an istral ("lost heart"). It attacks livestock, killing five or more a night, by drinking their blood. Only a VAMPIRDZHIJA ("vampire hunter") can slay it.
